Let's start with Amateur Radio:
Finally, after 35 years in the hobby, in the Spring of 2005 I upgraded my license to Amateur Extra Class. I now operate HF from my mobile and from home, as well as my usual UHF repeater activities.
My callsign is . . .
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . a '9-land' call though it appears for real on a California plate.
Amateur or 'ham' radio is a terrific hobby for anyone and everyone. It can be a bit techie or not, depending on your likes and abilities. I've been tinkering with radios and wires for a lot of years, and got my ham license in 1971. It's brought me a LOT of friends around the world, but most of them are closer to home, wherever that has been at the time.
I'm a member of and do a lot of engineering, tower climbing and radio fixing for the CalNet linked repeater system.

When the radio work is done, or not, there's always consumption of beer or Glenlivet. Sometimes in between work and radio stuff
there's hanging out with Kathy and her animals in the country, but mostly I'm playing with the computers and learning how to run
raisin.com for myself.
